Norbert W. Micke of Foristell, MO, passed away Monday, August 17, 2026.
Norbert, a lifelong resident of St. Charles County, passed away surrounded by the love of his family. He was born April 9, 1937, on Sneak Road in St. Charles County, to Herman and Martha. He grew up alongside his sister, Wilma. His father had immigrated to the United States from Frankfurt, Germany, and Norbert even picked up a little German along the way.He spent most of his life hunting (deer, squirrels, and turkey) and fishing with his cousins Ernie and Wesley. Norbert went to work at MacDonald Douglas (Boeing) right after high school graduation and worked there for 38 years.
He married Loretta on April 1, 1961. Right after they got married, he was called up with the Berlin Crisis and was sent to Kentucky for basic training. He was only supposed to be there for 6 months, but it turned into 2 years. He was moved to Fort Gordon, Georgia, where the Army sent him to radio school.
Norbert was in a Country Western band, The Travelers, where he played lead guitar and sang lead vocals. The other players in the band were Charlie, Dave, and Darrell. When his eldest son, Dean, was in high school, he started playing the drums for the band. The Travelers played all over the area at festivals, community clubs, and bars. They were together from the ’60s through the late ’80s.
He taught his sons how to hunt and fish, and they raised animals on their property for the boys’ FFA projects.
Norbert was a jack-of-all-trades. He could fix electronics, vehicles, and machinery. He was also handy around the house with carpentry, plumbing, and electrical work. He even built an addition to his house, adding a great room, dining room, and bathroom.
Norbert and Loretta raised three sons: Dean, the oldest; Steve, the middle son; and Darrin, the youngest. Dean married Terri, and they live in Marthasville with their son, Derek. Steve married Jeanne, and they also live in Marthasville and have two daughters, Rachel and Megan. Rachel and her husband, Jacob, have three children, Chloe, Teddy, and Riley. Darrin married Amy, and they live in O'Fallon and have four children, Will, Abby, Joe (who shares his birthday with his grandpa), and Greg.
In Norbert’s retirement years, he enjoyed woodworking, making furniture (benches/chairs/entertainment centers), and wooden crafts that Loretta painted and decorated, which they sold at craft shows. He also enjoys playing golf with his friends: Denny, Marty, and Ernie.
Norbert will be remembered as a hardworking and talented man who could fix just about anything, who loved the outdoors, music, woodworking, and most of all, his family.

Funeral: Friday, August 21 at 10 a.m. at St. John's UCC Family Life Center, 60 St. Johannes, Foristell, MO 63348.
