Phyllis & Kenneth Zerr

Phyllis J. and Kenneth A. Zerr, of Wentzville, MO, passed away Thursday, November 10, 2022, both the age of 84.

Loving parents of Brenda (Karl) Hillmann, Andrew (Carla) Zerr and Loretta (Alvin Nelson) Ament; cherished grandparents of Matthew (Samantha Shelton) Hillmann, Holly (Andrew) Dwyer, Valerie (Nathaniel "Bo") Hawkins, Fallon (John) Savage, Ashley (Brian) Kozlowski and Brandon (Valerie) Ament; and precious great-grandparents of Hunter Hillmann, Hayden Hillmann, Timothy Dwyer, Alexander Dwyer, Karmen Hawkins, Elyssa Hawkins, Kirsten Hawkins, Johnny Savage, Lexi Savage, Ally Savage, Wyatt Kozlowski, and Adalynne Kozlowski. The couple is also survived by Ken’s sisters, Ruth Ann (Ken) Humphrey, Elaine Richardson and Marie Zerr; Phyllis’ sister, Linda (Norman) Thomas, and sister-in-law, Judy Podhorn. They were preceded in death by Ken’s parents, Albert and Betty Zerr, Phyllis’ parents, John and Farol Podhorn, and Phyllis’ brothers, John (Kathy) Podhorn Jr. and Richard (Patricia) Podhorn.

Ken proudly and honorably served in the United States Air Force. He was a member of the VFW and was also a man of faith. Ken loved genealogy and was always researching. He loved tinkering with something and was often in the garage, or he could be found spending time on the computer. Ken loved fishing and hunting deer.

Phyllis loved gardening and being outdoors. She was quite the scrapbooker and liked crafting memory books for her grandchildren. Phyllis was a big reader and loved doing search and finds. She was a proud woman of faith and was also a member of the Handbell Choir. She loved to play and teach others the piano. Phyllis studied music at Lindenwood and also enjoyed studying horticulture. She and Ken loved birdwatching and studying the names of each bird.

Ken and Phyllis were both very involved in their church. They regularly volunteered for sausage dinners and local fish frys. They loved to travel together. Ken and Phyllis traveled the country, including Hawaii and Alaska, visited family in Colorado, and even took a 13-state vacation with their family. They also ventured over to Europe. In their younger years, the couple enjoyed camping with their families. They looked forward to family get-togethers and holidays.

Phyllis was a true family matriarch, and Ken was the ultimate family patriarch. The couple loved their family and each other more than words can convey. After 63 beautiful years of marriage, Ken stood by Phyllis’ side through their last moments. Their love and commitment to one another remain an inspiration. Ken and Phyllis were dearly loved and will be greatly missed by all who knew them.

Funeral Mass: Saturday, November 19, 2022, at 10 a.m., Immaculate Heart of Mary, New Melle, 8 W Hwy D.
Internment: St. Charles Memorial Gardens
Memorials: In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Disabled American Veterans, Alzheimer's Association, Meals on Wheels, and Immaculate Heart of Mary New Melle.
